Easy-to-Miss Differences

• Horsepower alone does not decide the size. A 70-100 HP engine carrying a Big Foot, High Thrust or E-TEC gearcase runs a larger propeller than this 14 in cage clears.
• The guard arrives as two mirrored halves, not one ring. Each half carries its own plate flange and skeg foot, so left and right parts are not interchangeable.
• Bolt count changes with size across this family: the 9 in and 11 in guards take 2 bolts per side on the plate, the 13 in and this 14 in take 3 per side. Under the skeg, this 14 in guard takes 4 bolts. Compare sizes in the propeller safety guard collection.
• Below 70 HP the propeller is usually smaller than this cage suits. For 40-65 HP engines the 13 in propeller safety guard is the matching size.
• The trim tab under the anti-ventilation plate has to come off before the flanges will sit flat. Plan for that step rather than forcing the halves together.
• This is a speed-rated accessory. Above 25 mph, 22 knots, the cage is outside its intended service window.

Installation Notes

1. Remove the trim tab under the anti-ventilation plate so both upper flanges can seat flat against the plate.
2. Hold the two halves around the gearcase and close them at the skeg, keeping the ring centred so the gap to the propeller tips stays even all the way round.
3. Slide the assembly as far forward on the anti-ventilation plate as the flanges allow, then mark the hole positions.
4. Drill the plate holes with the supplied bit, 3 per side, then fit bolts, washers and Nyloc nuts and leave them loose.
5. Drill the lower skeg for the 4 skeg bolts, fit the hardware and tighten those first so the ring cannot shift.
6. Tighten the plate bolts last, then rotate the propeller by hand to check clearance before running the engine.

Drilling is permanent. Mark and measure before the first hole.
