Milestone Achievement! Abeking & Rasmussen Deliver Their Largest Superyacht to Date
Abeking & Rasmussen, a colossal shipbuilding company based in Germany, once again reaffirms its famed 115-year tradition of shipbuilding with the delivery of its latest mega-superyacht, the 118.2m "LIVA.” Originally referred to as the “Celerius” project during its construction, it is now the largest superyacht ever built by the German shipyard in terms of both its physical dimensions and character.
The Uniqueness of "LIVA"
The sleek, slender, and minimalistic pitch-black hull of the "LIVA" sets it apart from the fleet in the industry. Abeking & Rasmussen didn't just create a completely unique and eye-catching TOP100 in terms of its length and structure but also birthed a product of incredible ingenuity and innovation.
Parisian design studio, Joseph Dirand Architecture, was the mastermind behind its majestic design, with a life-long intention of constructing a genuinely outstanding superyacht. The shipyard even admitted the aesthetic design of "LIVA" posed challenges; creating her final simplistic silhouette, whilst ensuring the technical requirements remained as invisible as possible, was a considerable challenge.
Futuristic Design Features
"LIVA" houses several exotic features, such as a 3.4m by 1.3m Neptune Lounge with a massive underwater window where guests can unwind and appreciate the world beneath the sea level. A marble swimming pool measuring 12m by 4m on the main deck, which features a liquid marble floor which can get elevated to the upper level. Radar mast housing a crow's nest providing another viewing experience, this time above the waves. The bridge deck houses a fully certified helicopter landing pad, providing a quick access to remote areas for the owner and guests.
Interior Elegance
Despite "LIVA's" somewhat minimalist exterior, it reportedly houses many relaxation and social areas onboard. One is the forward sundeck replete with a large circular sofa and a grand marble fireplace to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Exceptional Powering System
Beyond its striking black silhouette, "LIVA" is equipped with an advanced diesel-electric propulsion system specifically designed for exceptionally low noise levels whilst operating. Additionally, two 2240 Kw Caterpillar main generators and three 599 Kw Caterpillar auxiliary generators have been installed, along with four thrusters and four stabilizing fins enhancing propulsion and onboard comfort capabilities.
“LIVA” Significance
"LIVA" not only represents an engineering marvel with its challenging design limits but its underbody tender garage was also a challenging task for the shipyard. It’s worth noting its capacity to house a 16m long support vessel. A secondary tender garage is located on the main deck that can hold three tenders, a Triton submarine accommodating seven guests, and a variety of water toys.
Abeking & Rasmussen CEO, Matthias Hellmann, expressed his views on "LIVA’s" delivery, “This grand superyacht delivery symbolizes a decisive moment for our company. We’ve once again successfully built an extraordinary yacht by adhering to our values of innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, setting new industry standards and fulfilling the demands of our discerning clientele."
By length, "LIVA" will rank as the world's 33rd largest yacht. This groundbreaking superyacht pays homage to Abeking & Rasmussen’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation in the luxury yacht industry.
It marks an important milestone in their long and legendary history, leaving a mark that cannot be erased in the world of super yachts.
Hi—I’m Jim Walker
I grew up in a Florida boatyard, earning pocket money (and a few scars) by rebuilding outboard carbs before I could drive. That hands-on habit carried me through a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, where I studied how salt water quietly murders metal.
I spent ten years designing cooling systems for high-horsepower outboards, then joined JLM Marine as CTO. We bench-test every new part in the lab, but I still bolt early prototypes onto my own 23-foot skiff for a weekend shake-down— nothing beats real wake and spray for finding weak spots.
Here on the blog I share the fixes and shortcuts I’ve learned so your engine—and your day on the water—run smooth.
