Launch of the Heesen’s Latest 55-Meter Steel Superyacht, Serena: An Exclusive Insight
Heesen Yachts, the renowned Dutch shipbuilders, have taken luxury to the next level with the launch of their latest 55-meter steel superyacht, Serena, from its factory in Os, Netherlands. The shipowner and their family were present at the glorious moment to witness the seventh unit of the 55-meter steel series, making Serena a significant mark in the Heesen portfolio.
Built with an experienced shipowner in the lead, Serena's beginnings in Spring 2022 were anything but modest. With close collaboration between the shipowner, Heesen engineers, and Luca Dini's design and engineering team, Serena brings a unique intimacy to luxury.
Stepping into Serena
The design of Serena accentuates a cozy, comfortable interior, with each area meticulously designed for ultimate relaxation. A few notable changes, like removing salon and skylight vertical frames and adding hidden crew passages and a square spa tub, set Serena apart from her sister ships such as Vida and Moskito.
Serena's aggressive layout, crafted from continuous colored glass panels, and a French balcony in the main suite, which adds a touch of romance to the voyages, are impressive. The enhanced exterior deck space and additional crew stairs add to the yacht's practicality.
Pure Luxury, Inside and Out
From casual outdoor dining spaces to a spacious sunbathing platform featuring a whirlpool tub and a wrap-around bar, Serena is the epitome of luxury and comfort.
Through the interior, there's a sense of homeliness amidst luxury; light wood with velvet finishes, smoked Eucalyptus, bronze metallic accents, soft fabrics and leathers create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Comfort Beyond Words
Serena's main salon is divided into three carefully designed areas, with a fully-equipped bronze decorated bar serving the main deck aft terrace and lounge. The redesigned tri-deck atrium stands out with glass fixtures by American designer John Pomp and hand-carved metal lamps, creating a surreal, magical ambiance.
The sky-lounge is the heart of indoor social life and entertainment, complete with a hammered bronze bar, custom game table, and a cozy seating area. The beach club at the stern, designed like a waterside salon, offers a sauna with a larger glass door and elegant wood finishes.
Final Thoughts
The successful collaboration between Heesen Yachts, Arcon Yachts, and the shipowner is evident in Serena's successful launch, setting a milestone in the luxury yacht industry. Currently, Heesen has another unit of the 55-meter steel series, temporarily known as the "Venus" project, and the "Setteesettanta" project, the largest at 57 meters, under construction.
Set sail with Serena and experience the opulence on the sea!
Hi—I’m Jim Walker
I grew up in a Florida boatyard, earning pocket money (and a few scars) by rebuilding outboard carbs before I could drive. That hands-on habit carried me through a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, where I studied how salt water quietly murders metal.
I spent ten years designing cooling systems for high-horsepower outboards, then joined JLM Marine as CTO. We bench-test every new part in the lab, but I still bolt early prototypes onto my own 23-foot skiff for a weekend shake-down— nothing beats real wake and spray for finding weak spots.
Here on the blog I share the fixes and shortcuts I’ve learned so your engine—and your day on the water—run smooth.
