Package Contents
- 1 x Skeg Guard (27151 or 27030 depending on application)
- 1 x Installation Hardware Kit (bolts with pre-applied Loctite)
- 1 x Installation Instructions
Installation Guide
- Ensure the engine is off and the boat is securely trailered or stored.
- Clean the remaining portion of your skeg, removing any burrs or rough edges. A file may be used to flatten the surface for a flush fit.
- Fit the new skeg guard over the damaged skeg to check for proper alignment. A minimum of 2-3 inches of the original skeg must be remaining for a secure fit.
- Use a marker to mark the drill points on the skeg through the pre-drilled holes in the new guard.
- Remove the skeg guard and carefully drill two 1/4-inch holes through the skeg at your marked locations.
- Place the skeg guard back onto the skeg, ensuring the mounting holes align perfectly.
- Insert the included mounting bolts with pre-applied Loctite through the guard and the skeg.
- Tighten the bolts securely using the appropriate wrenches. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the threads or the skeg.
- Confirm the guard is firm and has no movement. The installation is now complete.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I know which part number (27151 or 27030) fits my Yamaha outboard?
A: Please refer to the Compatible Engine Models table on this page. For 150-175 HP (1984+), 200-250 HP 2-Stroke (1984-2002), and 350 HP 4-Stroke (2009+), you will need the guard corresponding to part #27151. For 200-300 HP engines from 2003 and newer, you need the guard for part #27030. Always verify your engine's HP and year before ordering.
Q: What if I have less than 2 inches of my original skeg left?
A: This bolt-on skeg guard requires a minimum of 2-3 inches of the original skeg to mount securely. If your skeg is damaged more severely, this product will not be a suitable solution, and you may need to consider a full skeg replacement or a professional weld-on repair.
Q: Is drilling into my skeg difficult? What tools do I need?
A: Installation requires drilling two 1/4-inch holes. You will need a power drill, a sharp 1/4-inch drill bit (cobalt or titanium bits are recommended), and wrenches. While straightforward for users with basic mechanical skills, we recommend professional installation if you are not comfortable performing these steps.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
