Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the spark plug wire(s) to prevent accidental starting.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Remove the bolts securing the gearcase (lower unit) to the engine leg.
-
Separate the Lower Unit: Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine. You may need to disconnect a shift linkage.
-
Open the Pump Housing: Locate and unbolt the water pump housing, which is typically on top of the gearcase.
-
Remove Old Components: Take out the old impeller, gasket or o-ring, wear plate, and any drive pins. Note their orientation.
-
Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean the inside of the housing and mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or debris.
-
Install the New Impeller: Lightly lubricate the inside of the pump housing. Insert the new drive pin(s) and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft clockwise to bend the vanes correctly.
-
Reassemble Pump: Install the new gasket/o-ring and re-secure the pump housing, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Raise the gearcase back into position, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft align properly. Reinstall bolts.
-
Test Operation: Reconnect the spark plug wire. Run the engine in a test tank or with a water flusher to confirm a strong and steady water stream from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my specific engine?
A: The most reliable method is to match your engine's original part number to the ones listed in our cross-reference table. You can also use the compatibility charts by finding your engine's brand, model, horsepower, and year/serial number range.
Q: What are the common signs that my water pump impeller needs to be replaced?
A: Key symptoms include a weak or intermittent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, the engine overheating alarm sounding, or visible cracks and brittleness on the old impeller's blades during inspection.
Q: How often should I replace my impeller?
A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. More frequent replacement is advised if you operate in sandy, silty, or shallow water.
Q: What is the difference between an OEM part and this aftermarket part?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component. We build our parts to meet or exceed OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window for unused items in their original condition; please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
