Installation Guide
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear oil drain and vent screws to drain the oil.
- Remove the mounting bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine. Carefully separate the lower unit.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing and remove the housing.
- Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's vanes before removing it.
- Remove the old impeller, wear plate, gasket, and the woodruff key from the driveshaft.
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the housing and base.
- Install the new gasket, wear plate, and woodruff key.
- Lubricate the new impeller with a small amount of grease and slide it onto the driveshaft, rotating it in the correct direction to seat the vanes.
- Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit to the engine, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align correctly. Refill with fresh gear oil.
- Reconnect the battery. Before starting, attach a water supply ("muffs") to the lower unit and confirm water flows from the tell-tale outlet once the engine is running.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my outboard model?
A: Check the "Compatible Engine Models" and "Part Number Cross-Reference" tables. It's crucial to match your engine's model, year, and OEM part number. For Suzuki owners, you can also use the parts diagrams linked above to verify.
Q: What are the signs my water pump impeller needs replacement?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, or a high-temperature alarm on your console.
Q: How often should I replace the impeller?
A: As a preventative measure, we recommend inspecting and/or replacing the water pump impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, depending on operating conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater).
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
