Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the engine's battery cables before beginning work.
-
Access the Pump: Remove the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard's midsection by undoing the mounting bolts.
-
Remove Old Housing: Unbolt and carefully lift the water pump housing off the driveshaft. It may be tight.
-
Inspect and Remove old Parts: Take out the old impeller, woodruff key, wear plate, and any gaskets or seals. Note their orientation.
-
Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces on the gearcase and the inside of the housing to ensure a perfect seal.
-
Install New Components: Place the new gasket and wear plate onto the gearcase.
-
Install New Impeller: Insert the new woodruff key into the driveshaft slot. Slide the new impeller down onto the key, twisting the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes correctly as you lower the housing over it.
-
Reassemble: Install the new seal in the housing. Re-seat the pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Reinstall Lower Unit: Reattach the lower unit to the outboard motor.
-
Test Operation: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine using a flush-murphy or in the water and confirm a strong, steady stream from the "tell-tale" outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my Suzuki engine?
A: Check your engine model and year against the compatibility table. This kit fits Suzuki DF200 (2004-2014, non-"A" models), DF225 (2004-Current), and DF250 (2004-Current). It is a direct replacement for Suzuki part numbers 17400-93J00 through 17400-93J05. For Johnson/Evinrude, it fits 200HP and 225HP 4-stroke EFI models from 2004-2005.
Q: What are the signs my water pump impeller is failing?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" water outlet, or a high-pitched whining sound from the lower unit. Upon inspection, you may find the old impeller's rubber vanes are cracked, brittle, or have broken off.
Q: How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
A: For preventative maintenance and to ensure engine reliability, it is highly recommended to replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use. This interval should be shorter if you operate primarily in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
