Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
-
Drain Oil: Drain the gearcase oil from the lower unit to prevent spills.
-
Detach Lower Unit: Remove the bolts securing the lower unit to the upper casing and carefully lower and detach the gearcase assembly.
-
Access Pump: Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and unbolt it.
-
Remove Old Components: Take out the old housing, impeller, gaskets, and wear plate. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller fins.
-
Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or sealant residue.
-
Install New Gaskets & Plate: Install the new wear plate and gaskets.
-
Install Impeller: Fit the new Woodruff key into the driveshaft slot. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft in its normal rotational direction to correctly seat the fins inside the housing.
-
Secure Housing: Place the new housing over the impeller and bolt it down to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Re-install Lower Unit: Carefully re-install the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned.
-
Refill & Test: Refill the gearcase with fresh, appropriate-grade marine gear oil. Reconnect the battery and test the engine's cooling system using a water supply before heading out on the water.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?
A: This kit is designed for a specific range of Yamaha V6 150–300 HP outboards (2-stroke and 4-stroke) manufactured between 1997 and 2014. Please carefully check the "Compatible Engine Models" table on this page and cross-reference your engine's model and year. For absolute certainty, use our Yamaha Serial Number Guide to verify your model.
Q: What are the signs that my water pump impeller needs replacement?
A: Common symptoms of a failing impeller include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" cooling outlet, and visible cracks, brittleness, or missing vanes on the old impeller during a physical inspection.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: For optimal engine protection and reliability, we recommend inspecting the water pump impeller annually and replacing it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. This interval may be shorter if you frequently operate in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
