Installation Guide
- Turn off the engine completely and close the engine's water intake valve (seacock).
- Locate the sea water pump, which is typically mounted on the front of the engine, and place a rag underneath to catch any spilled water.
- Carefully remove the screws from the pump's cover plate. If a screw is stuck, use penetrating oil but avoid stripping it.
- Gently pry off the cover plate. Take note of which way the old impeller's blades are bent.
- Using needle-nose pliers or a dedicated impeller puller tool, firmly grip the hub of the old impeller and pull it straight out.
- Thoroughly clean the inside of the pump housing and remove any leftover debris or pieces of the old gasket.
- Apply a liberal amount of water-based lubricant, like dish soap or glycerin, to the inside of the pump housing and all over the new impeller.
- Squeeze the new impeller and insert it into the housing, ensuring the blades bend in the same direction as the old one.
- Place the new gasket and O-ring in position and reinstall the cover plate, tightening the screws in a crisscross pattern to ensure an even seal.
- Open the water intake seacock, start the engine, and immediately check the pump and exhaust for proper water flow and leaks.
Note: For Volvo Penta applications, this impeller only fits pumps with LONG screws used on 2005 and newer boats.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
A: First, check your existing part number against our cross-reference list. Then, review the compatible engine models table to ensure your specific model and year are listed. For Volvo Penta engines, it's critical to confirm your pump uses the LONG screws found in models from 2005 and newer, as this kit is specific to that pump housing.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: We recommend replacing your impeller annually as part of your regular maintenance schedule. Impellers can become brittle and fail without warning, even if they see infrequent use, so preventative replacement is key to avoiding engine overheating.
Q: What is the correct lubricant for installation?
A: Always use a water-based lubricant such as dish soap or glycerin. Never use petroleum-based grease or oils, as they will cause the neoprene rubber to swell and degrade, leading to premature failure.
Q: What are common signs of a failing impeller?
A: The most common sign is the engine temperature rising above normal, especially at idle or low speeds. Other indicators include a reduced stream of water from the exhaust outlet, visible cracks or missing blades on the old impeller upon inspection, or a brittle texture.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
