Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the engine's battery before starting any work.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Drain the gearcase oil and remove the lower unit from the outboard motor.
-
Remove Old Pump: Unscrew the bolts securing the water pump housing and carefully lift it off the driveshaft.
-
Inspect and Clean: Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, and key. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or corrosion.
-
Install New Components: Place the new gasket and face plate onto the lower unit. Install the new impeller key into the driveshaft.
-
Install New Impeller: Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft clockwise to help seat the impeller vanes correctly within the housing.
-
Secure Housing: Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new housing, then press it down over the impeller while aligning the bolt holes. Securely tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the lower unit, refill the gearcase with fresh oil, and reconnect the battery.
-
Test Operation: Start the engine using a flush-and-test device to ensure water is pumping correctly before heading out on the water.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
A: The best way is to check your engine's model, year, and serial number against the "Compatible Engine Models" table above. For Mercury owners, our Mercury Serial Number Guide can help you locate this information on your motor.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent stream of water from the "telltale" outlet, or a high temperature alarm. Visible signs on the old impeller include cracked, brittle, or missing vanes.
Q: How often should the water pump impeller be replaced?
A: As a general rule, it is recommended to inspect and replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval can vary depending on usage conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater).
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
