Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect Power: Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
  2. Drain Gearcase: Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain and vent plugs to drain the gearcase oil.
  3. Remove Lower Unit: Unbolt the lower unit (gearcase) from the upper engine housing. Keep track of all bolts and their locations.
  4. Access Water Pump: With the lower unit removed, locate the water pump housing, which is situated on top of the gearcase around the driveshaft.
  5. Disassemble Pump Housing: Remove the bolts securing the water pump housing to access the impeller.
  6. Remove Old Impeller: Note the rotational direction of the old impeller blades. Remove the old impeller, drive key, seals, and gaskets.
  7. Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or sealant.
  8. Install New Components: Install the new gasket, seal, and drive key. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, rotating it in the same direction as the original to bend the blades correctly.
  9. Reassemble Housing: Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  10. Reinstall Lower Unit: Guide the driveshaft back into the engine and reattach the lower unit. Tighten all bolts securely.
  11. Refill Gearcase Oil: Fill the gearcase with fresh marine gear lube until it flows from the upper vent hole. Reinstall the vent and drain plugs.
  12. Test Operation: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs) and check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this impeller kit fits my Johnson/Evinrude engine?

A: The most reliable method is to check your engine's model and year against the "Compatible Engine Models" table above. You can also verify by cross-referencing your existing part number with those listed in the "Part Number Cross-Reference" table.

Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

A: Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and a high engine temperature alarm. A brittle or cracked impeller discovered during routine maintenance is also a clear sign it needs replacement.

Q: How often should I replace the water pump impeller?

A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect and/or replace the water pump impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, depending on usage conditions (e.g., more frequently in saltwater or sandy/silty water).

Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?

A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?

A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?

A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
