- Note the orientation of the old impeller's blades before removing it.
- Clean the housing interior and inspect the wear plate and housing for scoring or cracks.
- Lightly grease the new impeller and slide it onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft in its normal rotational direction to bend the blades correctly.
- Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Raise the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft align properly.
- Secure the lower unit with its bolts and refill the gear case with fresh oil.
- Test the engine with a water supply to confirm the cooling system functions correctly.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this fits my engine?
First, check the "Compatible Engine Models" table on this page. For Yamaha owners, we highly recommend using the linked Serial Number Guide to identify your exact model and year, as fitment can vary. Cross-referencing your old part's number with our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table is the most reliable method.
What are the common signs of a failing impeller?
A weak or inconsistent water stream from the tell-tale port is the most common sign. Other indicators include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a melted water pump housing, or finding brittle, cracked, or broken pieces of the old impeller during an inspection.
How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
For preventative maintenance, we recommend replacing the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, depending on operating conditions. If you frequently run your boat in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments, more frequent inspections and replacements are advised.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically an estimated 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (for unused items in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
