Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery cables before beginning any work.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Shift the outboard into neutral. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper leg of the engine.
-
Remove the Lower Unit: Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine. The driveshaft will slide out.
-
Open the Water Pump Housing: Locate the water pump assembly on top of the gearcase. Remove the bolts holding the pump cover in place.
-
Inspect and Remove Old Impeller: Lift off the housing and note the orientation of the old impeller vanes. Pry or pull the old impeller off the driveshaft.
-
Clean and Inspect: Clean any debris or corrosion from the inside of the pump housing and wear plate. Inspect them for deep scoring or damage; replace if necessary.
-
Install New Impeller: Lightly lubricate the new impeller and the inside of the housing. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft keyway and twist it clockwise to bend the vanes into the correct orientation as you press it into the housing.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the pump housing, ensuring any gaskets or seals are properly aligned. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
-
Reinstall Lower Unit: Guide the driveshaft back into the engine and secure the lower unit with its mounting bolts.
-
Test Operation: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs) and check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
A: The most reliable way is to match your engine's original part number to one of the numbers in our cross-reference list. Additionally, carefully check your specific engine model and year against our detailed compatibility tables. If you're still unsure, consulting an exploded parts diagram for your engine can help verify the correct component.
Q: What are the signs of a bad or failing water pump impeller?
A: The most common sign is your engine overheating at idle or low speeds. Other indicators include a weak or intermittent water stream from the "tell-tale" exhaust port. During a physical inspection, a failing impeller will often have cracked, brittle, or broken blades.
Q: How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
A: As a general rule for preventative maintenance, we recommend replacing the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of engine use. However, if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments, an annual inspection and replacement is highly recommended to prevent unexpected failure.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
