This aftermarket oil pressure light switch replaces Volvo Penta 3841607 (superseded by 3852215) and OMC 0379948. It threads into an oil-gallery boss on Volvo Penta and OMC Cobra sterndrive gasoline engines and signals the oil-pressure warning light or alarm — it is not a variable-resistance gauge sender.
Match this part in this order:
1. OEM number on the removed switch or in your parts catalog (Volvo Penta 3841607 or 3852215, or OMC 0379948)
2. Engine family and displacement — Volvo Penta or OMC Cobra sterndrive gasoline 4-cylinder, V6, or V8 in the 3.0L–8.2L range
3. Thread and terminal — 1/8 NPT male thread with a single male blade (spade) terminal
Identify the form from the product images: zinc-plated hex body, black insulator cap, one male blade terminal, and red thread sealant on the pipe threads. If your original unit has a 10-32 stud instead of a blade, or is a two-terminal gauge sender, it is a different component.
Use this table to confirm equivalent part numbers across OEM and aftermarket brands.
| Type | Brand | Part Number | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OEM | Volvo Penta | 3841607 | Primary reference; superseded by 3852215 |
| OEM | Volvo Penta | 3852215 | Current Volvo Penta switch (also used on OMC catalogs) |
| OEM | OMC Cobra | 0379948 | OMC sterndrive equivalent |
| Aftermarket | Sierra | 18-5894 | Oil pressure light switch replacement |
Part numbers are listed for identification only. This is an aftermarket part manufactured by JLM Marine and is not sold as a genuine Volvo Penta or OMC component.
Confirm your engine model and original part number before ordering. On Volvo Penta sterndrive and inboard gasoline engines, the identification plate and serial number are on the engine itself — typically on the cylinder block or flywheel housing — not on an outboard transom bracket. For OMC Cobra, match the number on the engine identification plate and the removed switch.
| Brand | Application | Displacement | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volvo Penta | Sterndrive / outdrive gasoline engines calling for 3841607 or 3852215 | 3.0L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L, 8.2L | 4-cyl, V6 & V8; warning-light circuit |
| OMC Cobra | Sterndrive / outdrive gasoline engines calling for 0379948 or 3852215 | 3.0L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L, 8.2L | 4-cyl, V6 & V8; warning-light circuit |
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Part type | Oil pressure light switch (warning / alarm) |
| Primary OEM number | 3841607 |
| Thread | 1/8 NPT male pipe thread |
| Terminal | Single 1/4 in. male blade (spade) |
| Function | Signals the oil-pressure warning light / alarm |
| Form | Zinc-plated hex body, black cap, sealant on threads |
Allow the engine to cool fully. Disconnect the battery negative cable before working on the warning circuit.
Pull the warning-light wire off the blade terminal. Unscrew the old switch and compare its thread and terminal to this 1/8 NPT / single-blade unit. Do not force a mismatched thread.
Thread the new switch in by hand on the sealed pipe threads, then tighten snugly with the correct wrench on the body hex — do not crush the insulator cap.
Push the warning-light connector fully onto the blade. Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and confirm the light or alarm clears as oil pressure builds and that there are no oil leaks at the port.
Note: Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
This is an aftermarket JLM Marine replacement matched to Volvo Penta 3841607. It is not a genuine Volvo Penta or OMC part.
No. This is an on/off light switch for the warning circuit, not a variable-resistance gauge sender. Engines that use both a gauge sender and a warning switch need the correct switch for the light circuit.
No. This listing uses a single male blade terminal. A 10-32 stud switch (common on some MerCruiser alarm switches) is a different terminal layout even if the pipe thread looks similar.
This listing is published for 3.0L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L, and 8.2L applications that call for 3841607, 3852215, or 0379948. Confirm the OEM number on the removed switch rather than assuming 8.1L coverage.
