Installation Guide
- Ensure the engine is off and has had time to cool down.
- Place an adequately sized oil drain pan beneath the old oil filter.
- Using an oil filter wrench, turn the old filter counter-clockwise to loosen and remove it.
- Carefully wipe the filter mounting surface on the engine block to ensure it is clean and free of old gasket material.
- Apply a thin, clean film of new engine oil to the gasket of the new filter.
- Screw the new filter onto the threaded mount by hand until the gasket makes firm contact with the engine block.
- Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 to one full turn by hand. Do not use a wrench to tighten, as this can cause damage.
- Refill the engine with the manufacturer-specified type and quantity of oil.
- Start the engine and let it run for a minute, carefully checking for any leaks around the new filter.
- Turn the engine off, wait several minutes for the oil to settle, then re-check the oil level on the dipstick and top off if needed.
- Properly dispose of the used oil and old filter according to local environmental regulations.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I know if this filter fits my engine?
A: This filter fits a wide range of 25–70 HP 4-stroke outboards from Suzuki, Johnson/Evinrude, and Mercury. To be certain, please check the "Compatible Engine Models" and "Part Number Cross-Reference" tables on this page to match your specific model and OEM part number.
Q: How often should I replace my engine's oil filter?
A: For optimal engine protection, we recommend following your engine manufacturer's service schedule. As a general rule, the oil filter should be replaced during every oil change, which is typically every 100 hours of use or at least once a year.
Q: What are the signs of a failing or clogged oil filter?
A: Common symptoms can include a low oil pressure warning, a noticeable drop in engine performance, a rough-running engine, or visible oil leaks from the filter's housing. If you notice any of these signs, you should inspect and replace the filter promptly.
Q: Does this filter include a new gasket?
A: Yes, a new o-ring gasket is included with every filter. It is critical to use the new gasket and to lightly lubricate it with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
