1. Prepare the new filter, a wrench, and a clean oil drain pan.
2. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then shut it off.
3. Place the drain pan beneath the old filter.
4. Unscrew the old filter using an oil filter wrench. Handle with care as it contains used oil.
5. Clean the filter mounting surface on the engine, ensuring no old gasket material remains.
6. Apply a thin layer of new, clean engine oil to the gasket of the new filter.
7. Screw the new filter on by hand until its gasket makes contact with the mounting surface.
8. Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 to one full turn. Do not overtighten.
9. Top off the engine oil to the correct level.
10. Start the engine and carefully check for any leaks around the new filter before resuming operation.
