This aftermarket rubber impeller is precision-engineered to fit Yamaha 2-stroke outboard engines in the DT series, including DT40, DT55, DT60, and DT65 models manufactured between 1983 and 1997. Designed to meet OEM specifications, this impeller ensures reliable water pump performance and optimal engine cooling.
A critical component of your outboard's cooling system, this impeller replaces worn or damaged units to restore proper water flow and prevent overheating. Each kit includes the impeller and drive key/pin for a complete, straightforward replacement.
Confirm your engine model/year in the table below. For Yamaha owners, here's a guide to help you identify your engine's serial/model: Yamaha Serial Number Guide. You can also review exploded diagrams to verify part numbers: Yamaha Parts Diagrams & Catalog.
| Brand | Model | Stroke | Years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamaha | DT40 | 2-Stroke | 1983 |
| Yamaha | DT55 | 2-Stroke | 1985–1997 |
| Yamaha | DT60 | 2-Stroke | 1983 |
| Yamaha | DT65 | 2-Stroke | 1985–1997 |
How do I know if my impeller needs replacing?
Signs of a failing impeller include reduced water flow from the tell-tale (indicator stream), engine overheating, steam from the exhaust, or visible damage to impeller vanes during inspection. Yamaha recommends replacing the impeller annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first.
How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
Check the compatibility table above for your engine model and year. You can also verify the part number using Yamaha's exploded diagrams or compare the physical dimensions and vane count of your old impeller to the product images.
What happens if I install the impeller in the wrong direction?
Installing the impeller backwards will result in little to no water circulation, causing your engine to overheat quickly. Always install vanes in the direction of shaft rotation and refer to your service manual for confirmation.
Should I replace other water pump components at the same time?
Yes, it's highly recommended to replace gaskets, O-rings, and seals whenever you change the impeller. Many technicians also inspect the wear plate and housing for scoring or damage to ensure maximum pump efficiency.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
