Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Turn off the engine and allow it to cool. Close the raw water intake seacock.
-
Access Pump: Locate the sea water pump, which is mounted on the front of the crankshaft for these models.
-
Remove Cover: Unscrew the bolts holding the pump's front cover plate and carefully remove it.
-
Note Blade Direction: Before removal, observe the direction the old impeller's blades are bent.
-
Extract Old Impeller: Use impeller pulling pliers or two flathead screwdrivers to carefully pry out the old impeller.
-
Clean Housing: Remove the old O-ring and thoroughly clean the inside of the pump housing and the cover plate sealing surface.
-
Install New O-Ring: Place the new O-ring into its groove on the pump housing.
-
Lubricate & Install: Lightly lubricate the inside of the pump housing and the new impeller with marine-grade grease or soap.
-
Insert New Impeller: Install the new impeller with a clockwise twisting motion, ensuring the blades bend in the same direction as the original.
-
Install Stop Lug: Place the new stop lug into its designated position within the housing.
-
Reassemble & Test: Reattach the cover plate, tightening the screws in a star pattern. Open the seacock, start the engine, and immediately check for proper water flow and any leaks.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller kit fits my Volvo Penta engine?
This kit is designed for Volvo Penta 3.0L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, and 8.1L engines manufactured between 1999 and 2005 with a crankshaft-mounted sea water pump. To ensure compatibility, please check your engine model and year against the "Compatible Engine Models" table and verify that your pump model is listed in the "Compatible Pump Models" section. Cross-referencing your existing part number is also highly recommended.
What are the signs that my impeller needs replacing?
The most common symptom of a failing impeller is engine overheating at idle or low speeds. Other signs include a weak or no stream of water from the exhaust outlet, visible cracks or missing blades on the impeller, and a brittle or swollen stop lug. The stop lug can degrade into a soft, mushy consistency over time, indicating an urgent need for replacement.
How often should I replace the impeller?
As a crucial part of preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing it every one to two seasons, or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Replacement frequency may vary depending on water conditions (sandy or silty water causes faster wear) and usage patterns.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
