Troubleshooting & FAQ
How can I be sure this oil seal fits my specific Yamaha engine?
This seal fits a wide range of Yamaha V4/V6 and F-series engines from 1984 to the present. Please review the 'Compatible Engine Models' table and cross-reference your engine's model and year. Verifying the OEM part number 93101-28M16-00 against your service manual is the most reliable confirmation method.
Why are there two seals included, and how are they installed?
These Yamaha engines use a stacked seal design for the water pump driveshaft. The two seals are installed back-to-back in the water pump base to provide a robust seal against both water intrusion from the outside and gearcase oil loss from the inside. Ensure they are correctly oriented and lubricated during installation.
What are the symptoms of a failed water pump oil seal?
Common signs include water in your gearcase oil (which will look milky or cloudy), a visible gear lube leak from the lower unit's weep hole, or recurrent water pump impeller failure due to contamination from the gear lube.
