Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and remove the spark plug wires to prevent accidental starting.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper leg. Carefully lower it down.
-
Remove the Old Pump: Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing. Slide the housing up and off the driveshaft to expose the impeller.
-
Inspect and Clean: Remove the old impeller, key, gaskets, and wear plate. Clean all surfaces of debris and corrosion.
-
Install New Components: Place the new gaskets and wear plate. Insert the new impeller key into the driveshaft and slide the new impeller on, rotating the driveshaft clockwise to seat the blades.
-
Reassemble the Pump: Lightly grease the inside of the new housing and install it over the impeller. Secure it with the bolts and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
-
Reinstall Lower Unit: Guide the driveshaft back into the engine, ensuring the water tube and shift shaft align. Bolt the lower unit back into place.
-
Test the System: Reconnect the battery. With the outboard in water or on a flush attachment, start the engine and check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale port.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my specific engine model?
A: The best way is to match your engine's model, year, and serial number against the compatibility tables above. For Mercury owners, use the provided serial number guide to verify your engine details, as fitment can be specific to serial ranges.
Q: What are the symptoms of a bad or failing water pump impeller?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and a melted water pump housing. Failure to replace a worn impeller can lead to severe engine damage.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: As a general rule, it is recommended to replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater conditions.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
