Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is off and in a safe, stable position before starting any work.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Locate and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper part of the outboard.
-
Separate the Lower Unit: Gently separate the lower unit from the engine. Be mindful of the shift shaft, which may need to be disconnected.
-
Open Water Pump Housing: Locate the water pump housing on top of the lower unit. Remove the bolts securing its cover.
-
Remove Old Impeller: Lift the housing cover and carefully remove the old impeller. Note the direction of the old blades for reference.
-
Clean and Inspect: Clean the inside of the housing and the wear plate. Check for scoring, warping, or corrosion and replace if necessary.
-
Install New Impeller: Lightly lubricate the inside of the housing. Install the new impeller by pushing down while turning the driveshaft clockwise to bend the blades correctly.
-
Reassemble Housing: Replace the housing cover and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft align properly. Secure with bolts.
-
Test Operation: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs) and check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
First, check the "Compatible Engine Models" table on this page. For Yamaha owners, we recommend using the Yamaha Serial Number Guide to confirm your engine's model and year precisely. Cross-referencing the part number from your old impeller is also a reliable method.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
The most common symptoms include engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and in some cases, a melted water pump housing due to excessive heat.
How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
As a preventative maintenance measure, we recommend replacing the impeller every 1–2 years or every 100–200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval can vary based on usage conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater).
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
