Stainless Steel Skeg Guard – Fits Mercury/Mariner 75-175 HP (Replaces OEM 27061)
This bolt-on skeg guard protects your outboard's lower unit from damage caused by underwater impacts. It is designed for a direct fit on compatible Mercury and Mariner models, including 75-115 HP 4-Stroke engines (2015–present) and 135-175 HP 2-Stroke engines, including Optimax and Pro XS series (2001-2018).
Constructed from marine-grade 316 stainless steel, it features a reinforced wear tab and a drain hole to prevent corrosion and freeze-up. This guard can be installed on a new or damaged skeg, provided at least two inches of the original skeg remains for a secure mount.

Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Ensure the engine is off, keys are removed, and the propeller is safely secured or removed before beginning work.
-
Prepare the Skeg: Clean the surface of the skeg thoroughly, removing any marine growth, dirt, or debris. If the skeg is damaged, file down any sharp or burred edges.
-
Position the Guard: Slide the skeg guard over the existing skeg, ensuring it is seated flush and fully against the lower unit.
-
Align and Secure: Align the mounting holes on the guard with the pre-drilled holes. Insert the provided mounting bolts.
-
Tighten Hardware: Thread the lock nuts onto the bolts and tighten them evenly and securely using the included hex key. Do not overtighten, but ensure there is no movement.
-
Final Inspection: Wiggle the guard to confirm it is rigidly attached. The installation is complete.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this skeg guard fits my engine?
A: Please review the Compatible Engine Models table on this page. Cross-reference your outboard's brand, model, horsepower, and year range to ensure a match. Verifying the OEM part number (27061) is also recommended.
Q: Can I install this on a skeg that is already broken?
A: Yes, this guard is designed to be installed on a damaged skeg. However, you must have at least 2 inches of the original skeg remaining to provide a secure mounting point for the hardware.
Q: Why is there a hole on the bottom of the guard?
A: The skeg guard includes a drain hole to allow water to escape. This important feature prevents water from being trapped, which can lead to corrosion or damage from freezing in cold climates.
Q: Is this part OEM or aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
