Installation Guide
-
Drain Gear Lube: Position the drive to access the drain/fill screws and drain the gear lubricant into a suitable container.
-
Remove Propeller: Straighten the cotter pin tabs, remove the propeller nut, and slide the propeller and thrust washer off the shaft.
-
Remove Bearing Carrier: Depending on your model, remove the bolts securing the propeller shaft bearing carrier. A carrier puller tool may be required.
-
Extract Old Seals: Carefully pry the old oil seals out from the bearing carrier housing, taking care not to scratch the inner surfaces.
-
Clean and Inspect: Thoroughly clean the seal housing in the bearing carrier. Inspect it for any burrs or damage that could affect the new seal.
-
Install New Seals: Lubricate the outer edge of the new seals with a light coat of grease. Press them into the housing squarely using a seal driver or appropriate socket until they are fully seated. Ensure the seal lips face the correct direction (typically spring-side towards the oil).
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the bearing carrier, propeller, and associated hardware. Torque all fasteners to the manufacturer's specifications.
-
Refill and Check: Refill the gearcase with fresh, recommended marine gear lubricant. Inspect for any leaks around the drain screws and propeller shaft area before returning to service.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this seal fits my engine?
The best way is to match your original part number to one of the numbers in our cross-reference table. You can also use our compatibility tables and check your engine's serial number against the listed ranges. For Mercury owners, our linked serial number guide can help you identify your engine details.
What are the signs of a failing propeller shaft seal?
Common symptoms include visible gear lube leaking from behind the propeller, fishing line wrapped tightly around the shaft (which can cut the seal), or finding a milky, white substance when you drain your gear lube, which indicates water contamination.
How often should I replace my prop shaft seals?
It is recommended to inspect and replace propeller shaft seals as part of your regular lower unit maintenance schedule (e.g., every 1-2 seasons, depending on use). They should be replaced immediately if you detect any signs of leakage or water intrusion.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
