Cover gasket, O-ring and lubricant are not included. JMP 8000-01K adds a cover gasket (GAK0007), an O-ring (ORG0015) and lubricant. Jabsco 836-0001-P is a kit-style number; the impeller only is sold here.

Installation Guide

1 Stop the engine, let it cool, and close the raw water seacock so water cannot enter the boat while the pump is open.
2 Remove the cover plate screws and lift off the cover. Keep the screws and the old gasket together so you can compare the seal size when reassembling.
3 Note the spline orientation, then grip the brass insert and pull the old impeller straight off. Recover any broken vane pieces from the downstream cooling circuit before continuing.
4 Clean the housing bore and the wear plate, and inspect them for scoring. Apply a marine-grade impeller lubricant, glycerine or soapy water to the bore and the new vanes. Do not use petroleum-based grease, which attacks neoprene.
5 Align the spline in the brass insert with the pump shaft, then press the impeller in while turning the shaft in the normal direction of rotation so all nine vanes lay over the same way.
6 Refit the cover plate with a serviceable gasket, tighten the screws evenly in a crisscross pattern, open the seacock, then start the engine and confirm a solid stream of cooling water and no leaks at the cover.

If the old part is Jabsco 836-0001, JMP 8000-01, Johnson 09-1029B, DJ 003-0901, Kashiyama SP-200 / SP-220, Yanmar 127881-42050, Cummins 160596 / 166758 / 556540 / 556850 / 21601R, CAT 1L4774, Nikkiso F40CBC or Perkins 460027, and the brass hub is a 25 mm 12-spline about 63 mm wide on a 95 mm 9-blade impeller, this part is the correct size.

The photo looks like 10 blades. Is this a 10-blade impeller? +

No. JMP 8000-01, Johnson 09-1029B and DJ 003-0901 all specify 9 blades. An isometric photo can hide one vane. Count nine blades before ordering.

Will this fit every Yanmar 6LY or Volvo TAMD diesel? +

No. Only engines whose parts list calls for 127881-42050 or JMP 8000-01. Match the original number. Some later Volvo high-speed engines use a 12-blade impeller of similar size; that is a different part.

What are the signs that my impeller needs replacing? +
