Installation Guide
-
Turn Off Fuel: Shut off the fuel valve and detach the kill switch lanyard for safety.
-
Prepare for Spillage: Place a rag or suitable container under the existing fuel filter to catch any gasoline.
-
Note Flow Direction: Observe the arrow on the old filter indicating the direction of fuel flow toward the engine.
-
Remove Old Filter: Carefully loosen the hose clamps and twist the fuel hoses off both ends of the old filter.
-
Install New Filter: Position the new filter so the arrow points in the correct direction of fuel flow.
-
Secure Hoses: Slide the fuel hoses firmly onto the new filter's barbed fittings and tighten the clamps securely. Do not overtighten.
-
Check for Leaks: Prime the fuel system by squeezing the primer bulb until firm. Visually inspect the filter and connections for any leaks before starting the engine.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this filter fits my engine?
This filter is a universal replacement for many Johnson/Evinrude, Mercury, and Yamaha outboards that use a 3/8" (10mm) fuel line. To ensure compatibility, check the Part Number Cross-Reference table to see if your old part number is listed. Physically verifying against your engine's original part is the best way to guarantee a match.
How often should I replace my inline fuel filter?
We recommend replacing your fuel filter annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. More frequent changes may be necessary if you notice fuel contamination or operate in harsh marine environments.
What are the signs of a failing fuel filter?
Common symptoms include engine hesitation, loss of power, difficulty starting, or stalling, especially under load. A visual inspection of the clear housing may also show water or debris.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
