Installation Guide
-
Disconnect the fuel line and remove the lower unit from the outboard engine following your service manual. Ensure the engine is cool and not running.
-
Remove the old water pump assembly by unscrewing the bolts securing the housing. Take note of the orientation of components for reassembly.
-
Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly to remove old gasket material, debris, and corrosion. Use a gasket scraper and ensure surfaces are smooth.
-
Install the new wear plate (6H3-44323-00) onto the lower unit with the smooth side facing the impeller. Apply a thin layer of marine grease to help hold it in place.
-
Insert the drive key (90280-03M03) into the driveshaft slot. Lubricate the new impeller (6H3-44352-00) with glycerin or soapy water—never petroleum-based grease.
-
Install the impeller onto the driveshaft ensuring the blades curve in the correct rotation direction. Gently rotate to align with the housing.
-
Place the insert cup (663-44322-00) over the impeller, then position the new housing (6H3-44311) with fresh gaskets (6H3-44315-A0, 6H3-44324-A0, 688-44316-A0) in proper sequence.
-
Install the O-ring (93210-46044) into its groove and secure the housing with the provided bolts (97095-08045, 97095-08055). Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications in a crisscross pattern.
-
Replace the fuel filters (6D8-WS24A-00, 6C5-24251-00, 6C5-13915-00) at their respective locations following your engine diagram. Ensure fuel lines are properly connected.
-
Install the new oil filter (5GH-13440-60) and thermostat (6G8-12411-00) with the new thermostat gasket (62Y-12414-00). Replace drain gaskets (90430-08020) on drain plugs.
-
Install the gear oil pump (24OP149) and secure with the cotter pin (91490-40030). Reassemble the lower unit to the midsection, torquing all fasteners properly.
-
Refill the lower unit with fresh gear oil and run the engine with water supply to verify proper water flow from the telltale. Check for leaks and proper cooling operation.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my specific Yamaha engine?
A: Check your engine's model number and year against our compatibility table above. The kit fits FT50G (2005-12), FT50J (2013+), FT60D (2005-12), FT60G, and FT60hp EFI High Thrust models (2010-2019). You can also use the Yamaha Serial Number Guide to identify your engine.
Q: How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
A: Yamaha recommends replacing the water pump impeller every 2-3 years or every 300-400 hours of operation, whichever comes first. If you notice reduced water flow from the telltale, overheating, or run the engine dry, inspect and replace the impeller immediately.
Q: What are the signs that my water pump needs to be rebuilt?
A: Common symptoms include weak or no water stream from the telltale indicator, engine overheating, steam from the engine, or a high-temperature alarm. If you experience any of these, shut down immediately and inspect the water pump system.
Q: Does this kit include everything I need for a complete water pump service?
A: Yes, this is a comprehensive kit that includes the impeller, housing, gaskets, seals, wear plate, hardware, plus fuel filters, oil filter, thermostat, and gear oil pump for complete maintenance. You'll have all major service components in one package.
Q: Can I install this kit myself or do I need a mechanic?
A: If you have mechanical experience and the proper tools, you can install this kit following the service manual. However, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper torque specifications, component orientation, and system performance.
Q: Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket replacement?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
