Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and remove the spark plug wires before beginning.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine leg.
-
Lower the Unit: Carefully separate the lower unit from the driveshaft housing to expose the water pump assembly.
-
Disassemble Pump Housing: Remove the bolts holding the water pump cover in place. Note the orientation of all parts.
-
Remove Old Impeller: Take note of the direction the impeller blades are bent. Remove the old impeller from the driveshaft.
-
Clean & Inspect: Thoroughly clean the inside of the pump housing and wear plate. Check for scoring, warping, or corrosion.
-
Install New Impeller: Lightly lubricate the new impeller and housing interior with a marine-safe lubricant. Slide the new impeller onto the shaft, twisting it in the direction of engine rotation to correctly orient the blades.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the water pump housing, ensuring all seals and gaskets are correctly positioned. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Guide the lower unit back into place, aligning the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube. Secure it with the bolts.
-
Test Operation: Reconnect the battery and start the engine in water. Immediately check for a steady stream of water from the "tell-tale" outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my specific engine model?
A: The best way to ensure compatibility is to match your engine's original part number with the numbers listed in our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table. Additionally, check your model, horsepower, and stroke against our "Compatible Engine Models" tables.
Q: What are the common signs that my water pump impeller is failing?
A: The most common indicators of a worn or damaged impeller are an overheating engine at idle or low speeds, and a weak or nonexistent water stream from the tell-tale port on the engine cowling.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: As a general rule, we recommend replacing the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval can vary based on usage conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater) and your engine manufacturer's specific guidelines.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
