Cover plate gaskets and lubricant are not included. JMP 7052-01K adds gasket GAK0031 and lubricant. If your service procedure calls for a new cover seal, order it separately against your pump model.

Installation Guide

  1. 1 Stop the engine, let it cool, and close the raw water seacock so water cannot enter the boat while the pump is open.
  2. 2 Remove the cover plate screws and lift off the cover. Keep the screws and the old gasket together so you can compare the seal size when reassembling.
  3. 3 Note the position of the key on the shaft, then grip the brass insert and pull the old impeller straight off. Recover any broken vane pieces from the downstream cooling circuit before continuing.
  4. 4 Clean the housing bore and the wear plate, and inspect them for scoring. Apply a marine-grade impeller lubricant, glycerine or soapy water to the bore and the new vanes. Do not use petroleum-based grease, which attacks neoprene.
  5. 5 Align the keyway in the brass insert with the key on the 12.7 mm pump shaft, then press the impeller in while turning the shaft in the normal direction of rotation so all six vanes lay over the same way.
  6. 6 Refit the cover plate with a serviceable gasket, tighten the screws evenly in a crisscross pattern, open the seacock, then start the engine and confirm a solid stream of cooling water and no leaks at the cover.

How do I confirm this fits my engine? +

Start from the original impeller number. If the old part is Jabsco 22799-0001, JMP 7052-01, DJ 08-37-0601, Yanmar 124223-42091 / 124223-42092 / 128296-42070, Kohler 250872 / 229955 or Johnson 09-827B, and the brass hub has a rectangular keyway on a 12.7 mm bore, this impeller is the correct size.

Will this fit a Yanmar 2GM or 3GM? +

Only if the original impeller is 124223-42091, 124223-42092 or 128296-42070. Many 2GM / 3GM pumps use 104211-42070, 128990-42200 or 14242-050. Those are different listings. 128620-42200 on the source sheet is a much larger spline impeller (JMP 7526-01), not this part.

What are the signs that my impeller needs replacing? +

The usual symptoms are a weak or intermittent stream of cooling water, rising engine temperature, and vanes that are cracked, flattened, hardened or missing on inspection. Flexible impellers are a wear item; many owners inspect annually and replace on a fixed service interval rather than waiting for failure.
