Installation Guide
- Disconnect the battery and drain the gear lube from the lower unit.
- Remove the mounting bolts that secure the lower unit (outdrive) to the upper casing.
- Carefully separate the lower unit from the engine. You may need to disconnect a speedometer tube.
- Locate and unbolt the water pump housing assembly from the top of the lower unit.
- Lift the housing off and slide the old impeller up and off the driveshaft. Remove the old key, gaskets, and wear plate.
- Thoroughly clean the driveshaft and the mounting surfaces of the housing and base.
- Install the new gasket and wear plate onto the lower unit.
- Place the new key into the slot on the driveshaft.
- Slide the new impeller down onto the shaft over the key. Lubricate the inside of the new insert cup and the impeller blades.
- While pushing down on the new housing, turn the driveshaft clockwise to correctly seat the impeller blades.
- Secure the new housing with its bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer's recommended torque.
- Re-install the lower unit, re-fill with fresh gear lube, and test the engine's cooling performance in water before operation.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this fits my engine?
The most reliable method is to check your engine's model, year, and serial number against the compatibility tables on this page. For Suzuki and Johnson/Evinrude models, use the provided links to access serial number guides and parts diagrams to verify fitment before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water pump?
Key symptoms of a failing impeller include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "telltale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, or a noticeable drop in water pressure on your gauges. A visual inspection may also reveal cracked, brittle, or worn impeller blades.
How often should I replace it?
As a general maintenance rule, it is recommended to replace the water pump impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. Service intervals should be shorter if the engine is used frequently in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
