Installation Guide
- Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover for safety.
- Place the outboard in neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper casing.
- Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the drive shaft housing.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing and slide it up the driveshaft to expose the impeller.
- Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, wear plate, gaskets, and seals. Note their orientation.
- Thoroughly clean all contact surfaces, removing any old gasket material or corrosion.
- Install the new components from the kit in the reverse order of removal, starting with the wear plate and key.
- Lightly grease the new impeller and slide it onto the driveshaft, turning clockwise to seat the vanes correctly.
- Reinstall the water pump housing, ensuring seals are properly seated, and tighten bolts to the specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit to the upper casing and secure it with the mounting bolts.
- Reconnect the battery and test the engine in a suitable water source, confirming a strong tell-tale stream.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit will fit my specific engine?
A: The best way is to check the part number on your existing water pump housing or in your engine's service manual. Cross-reference this number with the list provided in our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table. Additionally, use our "Compatible Engine Models" table to find your model and year.
Q: What are the common signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: The most common indicators include engine overheating, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and in some cases, a slight burning rubber smell. Reduced engine performance at high RPMs can also be a symptom.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace your impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can vary based on whether you operate in freshwater or saltwater and the amount of debris in the water.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
