- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft clockwise while pushing down on the impeller to seat the blades correctly inside the pump cup.

- Reinstall the lower unit, making sure the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.

- Before starting the engine, supply water to the lower unit using a flush device ("muffs") to check for proper water flow from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I know if this kit fits my outboard?
A: This kit is specifically for Johnson/Evinrude 5.5HP & 6HP (1954–1979) and 7.5HP (1954–1958) models that use a plastic pump housing. Check the compatibility table and visually confirm your engine has a plastic housing before ordering.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: Common signs of a bad impeller include the engine overheating at low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, or finding cracked, brittle, or melted blades on the old impeller during an inspection.
Q: How often should the impeller be replaced?
A: For preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing it every 1-2 years, depending on usage. If you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments, more frequent replacement may be necessary.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
