Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
-
Drain Gear Lube: Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the upper and lower gear lube drain screws to drain the oil.
-
Remove Lower Unit: Remove the bolts securing the lower unit to the engine's upper casing. Carefully separate the lower unit.
-
Access Water Pump: The water pump housing is located on top of the lower unit. Remove the bolts securing the housing cover.
-
Disassemble Pump: Lift off the housing. Slide the old impeller, gaskets, and wear plates off the driveshaft, noting the rotational direction of the impeller fins.
-
Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or debris.
-
Install New Components: Place the new gasket and cartridge plate. Insert the new woodruff key into the driveshaft and slide the new impeller on, rotating it clockwise to seat the fins correctly.
-
Reinstall Housing: Apply a bit of marine grease to the inside of the new cartridge insert and slide it over the impeller. Reinstall the housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the lower unit to the engine. Refill the gearcase with fresh marine gear lube from the bottom plug until it flows from the top hole. Reinstall both plugs.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
A: The best way is to check the part number on your original component. Cross-reference it with the numbers in our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table. Additionally, consult the "Compatible Engine Models" tables to ensure your specific engine model and year are listed.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: A weak or no water stream from the "tell-tale" port is the most common sign. Other indicators include the engine overheating alarm sounding or steam coming from the exhaust. Prompt replacement is critical to prevent engine damage.
Q: How often should I replace my impeller?
A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the water pump impeller every 1 to 2 years, or every 100-200 hours of operation, depending on usage conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater, sandy/silty water).
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
