Installation Guide
- Disconnect the spark plug wires and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase drain/fill screws to drain the gear lube.
- Remove the bolts securing the gearcase (lower unit) to the engine's midsection.
- Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine.
- Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to access the impeller.
- Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's vanes before removing it. Use pliers if necessary.
- Clean the inside of the pump housing and apply a light coat of marine grease.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft in its normal rotational direction to seat the vanes correctly inside the housing.
- Reinstall the water pump housing and torque its bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
- Re-attach the gearcase to the midsection, ensuring all shafts and tubes align correctly.
- Refill the gearcase with fresh lubricant before starting the engine.
- Reconnect the spark plug wires and test the engine using a flush-muff ("earmuffs") and water supply, checking for a strong water stream from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
A: The best way to ensure correct fitment is to cross-reference your engine's model and year with the 'Compatible Engine Models' table on this page. Also, verify your existing part number against our 'Part Number Cross-Reference' list. If you are unsure, check your engine's service manual or contact us with your model/serial number.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: The most common sign is a weak or nonexistent water stream from the engine's "tell-tale" outlet. Other symptoms include the engine overheating alarm sounding, steam from the exhaust, or finding brittle, cracked, or missing vanes on the old impeller during inspection.
Q: How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?
A: As a general maintenance rule, it is recommended to inspect your impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or 100-200 hours of use. This interval may be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater conditions.
Q: Is there a difference between this aftermarket impeller and the original OEM part?
A: This aftermarket part is engineered to meet or exceed original OEM specifications for fit, form, and function. It is made from high-quality neoprene and CR rubber compounds to ensure durability and reliable cooling performance, offering a direct replacement at a competitive value.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
