Installation Guide
- Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover for safety.
- Locate and unbolt the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard's midsection.
- Carefully lower and separate the unit to expose the water pump housing on top of the gearcase.
- Remove the bolts securing the water pump cover to access the impeller.
- Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's blades before removal.
- Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft, also removing the impeller key.
- Clean the inside of the pump housing and inspect it for scoring, warping, or corrosion.
- Lightly lubricate the new impeller and housing interior with marine-grade grease.
- Install the new impeller key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning it clockwise to seat the blades correctly.
- Reinstall the water pump cover and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specified values.
- Carefully guide the driveshaft back into the engine as you reattach the lower unit.
- Reconnect the battery and test the engine using a water supply (flusher or test tank) to confirm water is pumping from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
This impeller fits specific Honda 4-stroke models from 35-60 HP. To ensure compatibility, please find your exact model in the "Compatible Engine Models" table above and verify it uses OEM part number 19210-ZV5-003.
What are the signs of a bad water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include a weak or nonexistent water stream from the "tell-tale" cooling outlet, engine overheating alarms, or a reduction in overall engine performance. Address these issues immediately to prevent serious engine damage.
How often should I replace the impeller?
As a critical part of preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. Replacement frequency depends on usage, water conditions (saltwater vs. freshwater), and storage.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
