2. Place the outboard in neutral and remove the lower unit (gearcase) by unbolting it from the engine leg.
3. Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and remove its bolts.
4. Slide the housing up and off the driveshaft to expose the old impeller.
5. Remove the old impeller, taking care not to lose the drive key.
6. Clean any debris from the housing interior and inspect the wear plate for scoring.
7. Align the new impeller's keyway with the drive key and slide it onto the driveshaft.
8. While turning the driveshaft clockwise, push the housing down over the impeller to correctly seat the vanes.
9. Secure the housing with its bolts, re-install the lower unit, and reconnect the battery.
