Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this fits my engine?
First, verify that your original part number matches one of the numbers listed in our cross-reference table: 382221/0382221, 766433/0766433, or 47-80395M. Next, check the compatibility table to ensure your specific Johnson/Evinrude engine model and year (1.5, 2, 4, or 6 HP from 1967-1984) are listed.
What are the signs of a failed water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include a weak or nonexistent water stream from the "tell-tale" cooling system outlet, engine overheating alarms, or visible damage like cracks and brittleness on the old impeller blades upon inspection.
How often should I replace my impeller?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect your impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. Replacement frequency should be increased if you operate primarily in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
