Installation Guide
Follow these steps to safely install your transom saver:
- Trim the outboard motor to the full upward position to expose the trim rams.
- Slide the transom saver support block over one or two of the trim ram pistons, depending on your system.
- Ensure the support is seated correctly on the ram(s).
- Slowly lower the engine until it makes firm contact with the support block, creating pressure to hold it in place.
- For added security, install the two steer stop stabilizer clips onto the hydraulic steering cylinder shafts on either side of the outboard. This prevents the engine from turning during transit.
- Before trailering, always double-check that the motor is secure and does not have excessive movement.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I know if this transom saver will fit my specific outboard model?
A: This support is designed for a wide range of outboards from Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, Evinrude, and Tohatsu that use a 2 or 3 ram trim/tilt system. Please review our compatibility tables for specific model and horsepower ranges. Pay close attention to the "Notes" column, as some engines may require minor modification for a proper fit (e.g., cutting a small section) or are not compatible (e.g., Mercury Verado models).
Q: What is the purpose of the two included red clips?
A: The two steer stop stabilizer clips are designed to be placed on your boat's hydraulic steering rams. They prevent the engine from turning side-to-side during trailering, providing extra stability and protecting your steering system.
Q: How is this different from a traditional transom saver bar?
A: Unlike a traditional bar that connects the motor's lower unit to the trailer frame, this type of support works by bracing the engine's own tilt and trim system. It's often quicker to install and removes the risk of damaging the lower unit or trailer if you hit a large bump. It isolates the motor's movement without transferring shock to the trailer.
