Drain Gearcase Oil: Remove the drain and vent plugs to drain the lower unit oil.
-
Remove Lower Unit: Unbolt the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard's midsection and carefully lower it.

Inspect and Remove Old Parts: Take note of the orientation of the old parts. Remove the old impeller, gasket, and wear plate.
-
Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean the housing and plate surfaces, removing any old gasket material or debris.
-
Install New Components: Place the new wear plate and gasket. Slide the new woodruff key onto the driveshaft and install the new impeller, rotating the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes correctly.

Reconnect and Test: Reconnect the battery and spark plugs. Start the engine in water and verify that a steady stream of water is exiting the tell-tale port.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
The most reliable method is to match your engine's model, horsepower, and year range to the compatibility table provided above. For final confirmation, you can compare the OEM part numbers listed (like 17400-96350) with your engine's service manual or by looking up parts diagrams for your specific model.
How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
As a general rule, it is recommended to replace your water pump impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, the engine overheating alarm sounding, or visible steam from the engine cowling. A damaged impeller can cause rapid and severe engine damage, so it is critical to address these symptoms immediately.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
