Installation Guide
Follow these steps for a general installation. Always refer to your engine's service manual for detailed instructions.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental starting.
- Place the outboard in neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase).
- Carefully lower the gearcase to access the water pump assembly.
- Remove the water pump housing bolts and lift the housing to expose the impeller.
- Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's fins before removing it from the driveshaft.
- Clean the interior of the pump housing and inspect it for wear, scoring, or corrosion.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft clockwise while pushing down to correctly orient the blades.
- Reinstall the water pump housing, ensuring any seals are properly seated.
- Reattach the gearcase to the outboard, making sure the shift shaft and water tube align correctly.
- Secure the gearcase bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
- Once assembled, test the engine in a suitable water source to confirm a strong and steady stream from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my Suzuki engine?
The best method is to match your engine's model and year to the "Compatible Engine Models" table. For 100% certainty, verify that your existing impeller's part number matches one of the cross-referenced numbers, such as Suzuki 17461-95201.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and, in severe cases, a melted water pump housing.
How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
For preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing it every 1-2 years or 200-300 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can shorten in engines operated frequently in sandy or silty water.
Does this include the water pump housing or gaskets?
No. This listing is for the impeller only. The housing, wear plate, and installation gaskets are sold separately as part of a complete water pump repair kit.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
