Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires and shift the outboard into neutral.
  2. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase drain/fill screws to drain the gear lube.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the gearcase (lower unit) to the engine's midsection.
  4. Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine.
  5. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to access the impeller.
  6. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's vanes before removing it. Use pliers if necessary.
  7. Clean the inside of the pump housing and apply a light coat of marine grease.
  8. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft in its normal rotational direction to seat the vanes correctly inside the housing.
  9. Reinstall the water pump housing and torque its bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
  10. Re-attach the gearcase to the midsection, ensuring all shafts and tubes align correctly.
  11. Refill the gearcase with fresh lubricant before starting the engine.
  12. Reconnect the spark plug wires and test the engine using a flush-muff ("earmuffs") and water supply, checking for a strong water stream from the tell-tale outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?

A: The best way to ensure correct fitment is to cross-reference your engine's model and year with the 'Compatible Engine Models' table on this page. Also, verify your existing part number against our 'Part Number Cross-Reference' list. If you are unsure, check your engine's service manual or contact us with your model/serial number.

Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

A: The most common sign is a weak or nonexistent water stream from the engine's "tell-tale" outlet. Other symptoms include the engine overheating alarm sounding, steam from the exhaust, or finding brittle, cracked, or missing vanes on the old impeller during inspection.

Q: How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?

A: As a general maintenance rule, it is recommended to inspect your impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or 100-200 hours of use. This interval may be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater conditions.

Q: Is there a difference between this aftermarket impeller and the original OEM part?

A: This aftermarket part is engineered to meet or exceed original OEM specifications for fit, form, and function. It is made from high-quality neoprene and CR rubber compounds to ensure durability and reliable cooling performance, offering a direct replacement at a competitive value.

Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?

A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?

A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?

A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
