Installation Guide
- 1Confirm the stamped number on the sensor you remove is 885342002, 885342001, or 8M0148668, and that your engine/serial appears in the compatibility table.
- 2Disconnect the battery negative cable and allow the engine to cool before opening the cowling or engine compartment.
- 3Release the blue connector locks and unplug the sensor by the connector housing. Do not pull on the wires.
- 4Place an absorbent cloth below the sensor, remove the old unit with the correct wrench on the hex body, and keep debris out of the threaded opening.
- 5Start the replacement by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the torque in your Mercury / MerCruiser service manual for that engine.
- 6Reconnect the plug until it locks, reconnect the battery, then run the engine per the service procedure while checking for leakage, warning messages, and a normal temperature reading.
