Installation Guide
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the engine cover.
- Shift the outboard into neutral. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper casing.
- Carefully lower the gearcase, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube disengage smoothly.
- Place the lower unit on a workbench. Remove the four bolts securing the water pump housing.
- Slide the old pump housing up and off the driveshaft. Remove the old impeller, key, and wear plates.
- Thoroughly clean the driveshaft and the pump mounting surface.
- Install the new Woodruff key, gaskets, and wear plates from the kit.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning it clockwise to align with the key and seat the vanes.
- Lightly grease the inside of the new pump housing and slide it over the impeller.
- Align the housing bolt holes, install the new bolts with seals, and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reinstall the lower unit, carefully aligning the driveshaft splines, water tube, and shift shaft.
- Secure the lower unit with its mounting bolts and reconnect the battery. Test run the engine with a water supply.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?
A: First, check your engine's model, horsepower, and year against the comprehensive "Compatible Engine Models" tables provided above. For additional verification, you can use our Yamaha Serial Number Guide to pinpoint your exact engine model and the corresponding OEM part numbers.
Q: What are the signs my water pump impeller needs to be replaced?
A: Common indicators of a failing impeller include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, or a noticeable drop in cooling performance. A visual inspection during routine service may also reveal cracked, brittle, or worn impeller vanes.
Q: How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
A: As a general rule for preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or after every 100-200 hours of operation. Service intervals should be shorter if the engine is primarily used in saltwater or in water with high levels of sand or silt.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
