Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental starting.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper casing.
-
Remove the Pump Housing: Carefully detach the lower unit. Locate and unbolt the water pump housing to expose the old impeller and components.
-
Inspect and Clean: Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, and key. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or debris.
-
Install New Components: Insert the new woodruff key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft (rotating clockwise to bed the fins). Place the new gaskets and plates as per the diagram.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the housing and tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque. Ensure all components are seated correctly.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align. Secure with bolts.
-
Test: Reconnect the battery, supply water to the engine using flushing muffs, and start it. Check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
The most reliable method is to check your engine's model, year, and serial number against the "Compatible Engine Models" table. For Yamaha owners, we highly recommend using the official Yamaha Serial Number Guide and Parts Diagrams to visually confirm the part numbers match your specific unit.
What are the signs of a failing water pump?
Common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and in some cases, a high-temperature alarm from your dashboard gauges. These indicate the impeller is no longer pumping sufficient water to cool the engine.
How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
As a preventative maintenance measure, it is highly recommended to replace the water pump impeller and gaskets annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This is especially important for boats used in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
