Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this impeller fits my Yamaha engine?
This impeller is specifically for early model Yamaha 6HP (6A) and 8HP (P165/8A) 2-stroke outboards. To confirm fitment, you must match your engine's model and serial number to the ranges provided in the "Compatible Engine Models" table above. For example, it fits 8HP long shaft models only up to serial number 54715.
How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
For optimal performance and to prevent overheating, we recommend replacing the impeller annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This is a critical preventative maintenance task.
What are the signs of a failing impeller?
Common signs of a worn or damaged impeller include a weak or intermittent water stream from the cooling system's tell-tale port, engine overheating alarms, or a noticeable drop in engine performance.
