Installation Guide
-
Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental starting.
-
Access Lower Unit: Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's upper housing.
-
Remove Lower Unit: Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine. The driveshaft will disengage from the powerhead.
-
Open Water Pump Housing: Locate the water pump on top of the gearcase and remove the bolts securing its cover.
-
Remove Old Impeller: Note the rotational direction of the old impeller fins. Remove the old impeller and the drive key.
-
Clean and Inspect: Clean the inside of the housing and inspect it for scoring or damage. Replace the housing if necessary.
-
Install New Impeller: Insert the new drive key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, twisting it in the direction of engine rotation to seat the blades correctly.
-
Reassemble Housing: Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the housing and reinstall the cover with a new gasket.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Guide the driveshaft back into the powerhead and secure the lower unit with its bolts.
-
Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Test Operation: Start the engine in the water or with a proper flush attachment to verify water is pumping from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
A: The best method is to compare your original part number to our cross-reference list. You can also check your engine model, HP, and year against the compatibility charts provided above. Use our serial number guides to verify your engine details.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and a dry, cracked, or brittle appearance on the old impeller's blades upon inspection.
Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years, depending on usage (hours) and water conditions (saltwater vs. freshwater). Frequent use in sandy or silty water may require more frequent replacement.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
