Installation Guide

1. Safety First: Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is turned off and cool to the touch before beginning work.
2. Access the Lower Unit: Drain the gearcase lubricant. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper driveshaft housing and carefully lower it.
3. Locate the Water Pump: The water pump housing is located on top of the gearcase. Remove the bolts securing the water pump cover.
4. Remove Old Components: Take out the old impeller and water pump housing. The grommet and washer are located where the copper water tube enters the pump housing. Carefully remove the old, hardened seal and washer.
5. Clean and Inspect: Thoroughly clean the housing and the end of the copper water tube. Ensure there is no debris or old sealant residue.
6. Install New Seal and Washer: Place the new nylon washer (26-38453) into the recess first. Then, press the new rubber grommet seal (26-38452) firmly into place on top of the washer. A small amount of 2-4-C marine grease can aid installation.
7. Reassemble: Carefully re-install the water pump assembly and guide the water tube into the new grommet seal. Reattach the lower unit, refill the gearcase with lubricant, and reconnect the battery.
8. Test: Start the engine using a water source (flushing muffs) and check for leaks and proper water discharge ("telltale" stream).
