Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Disconnect the battery and spark plug wires to prevent accidental starting.
-
Access the Lower Unit: Drain the gearcase oil. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper engine housing and carefully lower it.
-
Disassemble the Water Pump: Unbolt and remove the water pump housing. Take note of the order of all components (seals, gaskets, impeller, keyway).
-
Inspect and Clean: Clean all surfaces where gaskets will sit. Inspect the housing and wear plate for scoring, warping, or corrosion.
-
Install New Components: Lightly grease the new gaskets and seals. Slide the new impeller into the housing while turning the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes correctly.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the pump housing, ensuring all parts are aligned. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
-
Reattach Lower Unit: Guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align. Securely tighten the mounting bolts.
-
Final Checks: Refill the gearcase with fresh oil. Reconnect the spark plug wires and battery. Test the engine in water, ensuring a steady stream of water from the tell-tale port.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my specific engine?
A: The most reliable method is to match your engine's serial number to the ranges listed in the compatibility tables. This kit is for standard gearcases only and will not fit "Bigfoot" models. If unsure, check your current part numbers against our cross-reference list.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet port, and a melted or brittle appearance of the old impeller's rubber vanes upon inspection.
Q: How often should the water pump impeller be replaced?
A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect and/or replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, depending on operating conditions (especially in saltwater or sandy/silty water).
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
