Installation Guide

Follow these steps for proper installation. Always consult your service manual for model-specific instructions.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting work.
  2. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase lubricant drain screw to drain the oil.
  3. Remove the bolts that secure the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's midsection.
  4. Carefully slide the lower unit down and away from the engine to expose the driveshaft.
  5. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to access the impeller.
  6. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's vanes before removing it.
  7. Remove the old impeller, gaskets, and wear plate. Clean all surfaces thoroughly.
  8. Install the new gaskets and components. Lightly lubricate the interior of the housing and the new impeller with grease.
  9. Insert the drive key into the shaft and slide the new impeller on, turning the driveshaft clockwise to correctly flex the vanes.
  10. Reinstall the water pump housing and torque its bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
  11. Reattach the lower unit to the engine, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align correctly.
  12. Refill the gearcase with the recommended lubricant and reinstall the battery cable. Test the engine in water to verify proper water flow.
