Installation Guide
- Locate the drain and fill screws on the lower unit gearcase. They are typically large, flathead screws.
- Position a suitable drain pan under the lower screw (drain screw).
- Remove the top screw (vent screw) first, then remove the bottom drain screw to allow the oil to drain completely.
- Carefully remove the old gasket from each screw. Clean the screw threads and the sealing surface on the gearcase.
- Slide the new gasket onto each screw.
- Reinstall the bottom drain screw first and tighten until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Fill the gearcase with the recommended lubricant through the bottom hole until it flows out of the top vent hole.
- Reinstall the top vent screw and tighten securely. Wipe away any excess oil and inspect for leaks.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I know if this gasket will fit my engine?
A: This gasket is designed for most Mercury, MerCruiser, Johnson, and Evinrude models with 3/8-16 drain/fill screw holes. The best way to confirm fitment is to check your OEM part number against the cross-reference list provided on this page. Also, verify your engine model is listed in the compatibility tables.
Q: What is the difference between the yellow gasket and the older blue ones?
A: The yellow gasket is a newer design made of a rubber-coated stainless steel that seals effectively without being crushed. The older style blue, orange, or black gaskets were a fiber design that required compression to create a seal and were typically single-use.
Q: How often should I replace my drain screw gaskets?
A: It is highly recommended to replace the drain and fill screw gaskets every time you change your gearcase oil. This ensures a proper, leak-free seal and protects your engine's lower unit from water intrusion.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
