- Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
- Place the outboard in neutral and remove the lower unit mounting bolts.
- Carefully separate the lower unit (gearcase) from the upper section of the outboard.
- Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and remove its bolts.
- Slide the housing up and off the driveshaft to expose the impeller.
- Remove the old impeller, key, gasket, and any seals. Clean the housing and mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new gasket and o-ring onto the gearcase.
- Insert the new key into the driveshaft keyway.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft while turning the shaft clockwise to seat the vanes correctly.
- Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's recommended torque.
- Lightly grease the driveshaft splines and reinstall the lower unit.
